Andel, a leading UK-based company specializing in leak detection and environmental protection systems, went beyond its usual business endeavours to help Yahyay, a Kenyan fisherman, achieve his dream of owning a boat to support his family.

In 2022, Mark Harris, Andel’s Commercial Director, befriended Yahyay during a visit to Zanzibar and learned about his efforts to provide for his family back in Kenya. Although Yahyay had saved toward purchasing a small fishing boat, he was still £1,000 short. Moved by his story, Andel decided to donate the £1,500 needed to help Yahyay reach his goal.

Since then, Yahyay’s business has flourished in 2024. In addition to supporting his family, he has expanded his services to include offering guided tours around Kenya, near Mombasa. Andel’s support extended to the purchase of a new boat motor and contributed to Yahyay’s purchase of the boat in its entirety. This direct and personal approach to charity, bypassing larger organizations, has had a truly transformative impact on Yahyay’s life, showcasing the significant difference businesses can make by directly supporting local communities.

As a company with a history of supporting charitable causes, Andel continues to receive regular updates from Yahyay and takes pride in the positive contribution he is now able to make to his own community.
