The UK’s leading developer of specialised leak detection and environmental protection systems, Andel, has pledged to convert to 100% electric or hybrid vehicles over the next three years.
The Yorkshire manufacturer is responsible for oil storage, fuel maintenance, sampling and inspections at more than 50% of all NHS trusts in England and recently pledged to go carbon neutral by 2025. The company will switch its fleet of around 25 vehicles over by 2024 and cut all non-essential travel – a decision made ahead of the Cop26 climate summit this year and after the UK government committed to the country’s 2050 net-zero target.
The team’s new Carbon Neutral Committee is overseeing the company’s path to net-zero and plans to also relaunch products with recycled materials, move to more energy-efficient premises, source green energy and buy land to offset carbon use.
Managing Director of Andel, Peter Double, said: “The start of the process began last year when we trialled switching one vehicle to electric. Now we are confident we can switch all of them and maintain the same work capacity.
“The rollout will be a phased approach over the next few years and will be a positive move toward us becoming as environmentally friendly as we can.
“We are looking forward to calculating the overall impact this will have on our carbon footprint once we have completed the change.”
