Powered by reliable radar technology, the sensor continuously monitors water levels, providing instant alerts of rising levels, blockages or overflow events to support proactive flood risk management.
With thousands of miles of roadside drainage across the UK lacking active monitoring, blockages and rising water levels often go undetected until flooding occurs. The FloodAlert Drain Gulley Sensor offers a low-cost solution to reduce emergency call-outs, prevent surface flooding and protect vital infrastructure. Real-time data is available via the cloud-based FloodAlert portal, with automatic alerts sent by email, SMS and WhatsApp for rapid response.
The radar sensor housing is a compact enclosure constructed from PA12 Nylon, known for its high strength, chemical and impact resistance. The unit is designed to mount discreetly beneath slotted drain covers.
The integrated bulls-eye spirit level ensures accurate plumb installation. During fitting, the enclosure is secured to the underside of the drain cover with heavy-duty ties, positioning the sensor directly above the centre of the gulley pot for optimal performance.
For reliable operation, installations should be located where LoRaWAN® network coverage is available, and a minimum read distance of 200mm from the rear of the mounting base must be maintained.
An integrated high-gain dome antenna provides optimum signal strength, supporting reliable connectivity and uninterrupted monitoring.
Andel's FloodAlert radar sensor units offer flexible connectivity options with seamless integrating with existing third-party LoRaWAN® networks, a customer’s own private network, or a dedicated LoRaWAN® gateway supplied, installed and fully managed by Andel – ensuring reliable data transmission and effortless setup.
Alarm levels are calibrated and pre-set within the reading range (sensing cone) for each individual installation and levels are based on site conditions and a flood risk assessment for that drainage gulley system.
The illustration shows an example installation only and is based on a drain pot diameter of 450mm, the measurements shown may vary between different sites.
The FloodAlert Drain Gulley Sensor is ideal for a wide range of roadside and urban drainage environments, including:
Alarm levels are pre-set and calibrated for each installation. Each time an alarm threshold is breached, users can receive email, SMS and WhatsApp warnings of the rising water levels.

Access real-time and historical water level data and battery performance instantly through any web browser.
A compact LoRaWAN®-enabled water-level sensor designed to monitor drainage gullies and trigger alerts when threshold levels are exceeded.
The sensor detects rising water levels in a drain/gully, transmits data wirelessly to the cloud portal and sends automatic email, SMS or WhatsApp alerts when pre-set alarm levels are breached.
Ideal for mounting under slotted drain covers, making it suitable for surface-water flood risk, highway drainage and SuDS monitoring.
Uses LoRaWAN® technology to communicate with a gateway and relay data to the FloodAlert cloud portal – supporting low power, wide-area network deployment.
Provides real-time and historical water-level data, battery/signal status, and gives users alerts and dashboards via any internet-connected device.
Up to three customised alert thresholds can be configured per installation to match site-specific water-level risk profiles.
Yes. Once installed it operates 24/7, requires minimal maintenance (battery life typically long), and alerts provide advance notice allowing preventive action rather than reactive response.
Early warning of drainage/gully flooding, remote monitoring, integration into networked flood-risk systems, reduced downtime and improved resilience for infrastructure.
