Ranger® 2 High-Sensitivity Water Leak Detection Cable for Data Centres & HVAC

Ranger® 2 High-Sensitivity Water Leak Detection Cable for Data Centres & HVAC

Best suited to pipe-mounted applications where leaks may begin as drips or condensation

In critical environments such as data centres and HVAC plant, water leaks rarely begin as obvious spills. Instead they often start as small drips, seepage or condensation on pipework, valves or fittings that go undetected until damage occurs. Ranger® 2 High-Sensitivity Cable is specifically engineered for these situations – providing rapid detection of even the smallest amounts of liquid before it reaches floors, equipment or service voids.

Unlike standard cable, which relies on liquids pooling to activate an alarm, this high-sensitivity design draws moisture into the sensing core, enabling reliable detection when clip-tied to underside pipework and other hard-to-monitor areas.

How it works

Distance-measuring leak detection

As part of the Floodline Ranger® 2 system, the cable provides distributed leak detection, monitoring up to 1,500 metres of sensing length and pinpointing leaks along its length to within one metre. This precise location capability supports fast investigation and minimises disruption to facilities teams. Ranger® 2 can operate as a stand-alone system or integrate into wider Floodline® installations.

Ranger® 2 High-Sensitivity Water Leak Detection Cable for Data Centres & HVAC

High-sensitivity construction

The cable features two sensing cores twisted around a central former, combined with a highly absorbent fabric wrap and protected by a durable mesh outer braid. This absorbent layer draws even tiny amounts of liquid into the core, triggering an alarm long before water reaches floors or equipment.

Installation tailored to critical plant areas

Flexible and easy to install

With factory-installed metal connectors and a lightweight, flexible form factor, Ranger® 2 is ideal for routing along pipework, around valves and through congested plant spaces without complex installation challenges.

Typical applications

Ranger® 2 High-Sensitivity Cable is best suited to pipe-mounted applications where leaks may begin as drips or condensation and where early leak detection is mission-critical:

  • Pipe runs servicing chilled water and HVAC systems
  • Data centre infrastructure routing
  • Telecoms and communications rooms
  • Electrical and plant rooms
  • Laboratories, cleanrooms and other controlled environments

It is best suited to pipe-mounted, high-risk installations rather than floor voids where standard leak detection cable is more appropriate.

Supporting resilience in mission-critical environments

In mission-critical facilities such as data centres and central plant rooms, maintaining uptime depends on early visibility of developing risks such as water ingress from pipework, valves or fittings. Ranger® 2 High-Sensitivity Cable supports resilience by enabling early detection and precise localisation of leaks at source, before water reaches floors, equipment or critical infrastructure.

When deployed as part of a wider Floodline® leak detection strategy, it supports resilience objectives often referenced in frameworks such as EN 50600, helping facilities teams respond quickly and proportionately to emerging risks.

Reusable and serviceable design

The cable can be wetted and dried repeatedly without loss of performance, provided it is not exposed to contaminants that permanently affect its electrical characteristics. Where contamination is water-soluble, the cable can be removed, rinsed with clean water, dried and returned to service – extending the lifecycle and reducing maintenance cost.
