The end-user customer is one of Europe’s leading data centre providers with a strong commitment to the environment, providing state-of-the-art solutions to a long list of blue chip organisations.
The centres were built to the latest design specifications with raised floor access, a common feature in data centres. Consequently, the floor voids in data halls needed to be equipped with leak detection sensors to monitor for leaks from water service pipes.
As well as other typical risk areas such as tea points and kitchens, another threat came from ceiling-mounted cooling fan units. If there was a water leak high up, the fans would spray water over sensitive equipment and though alarms would be triggered by under-floor sensors, it could be too late to avoid the risk of damage.
A bespoke solution was needed meeting multiple requirements.
Andel’s Floodline® is a resilient, flexible, future-proof, zonal and distance measuring leak detection system.
For this project, a zonal system was chosen and installed across all the sites.
The installation included Floodline® Multi-Zone control panels, Floodline® high-sensitivity sensor cable and a range of other zonal leak detection equipment such as point sensors and digital refrigerant gas sensors.
To deal with the ceiling-mounted cooling fans, Floodline® high-sensitivity sensor cable was suspended in the halls below the fans. The cables have a fine, multi-filament cellulosic outer covering which draws liquid into detection cores allowing the system to detect and react to the smallest amounts of water.
Floodline® Multi-Zone control panels continually monitor the network of leak detection zones for water and refrigerant gas leaks.
A range of sensors were strategically installed in floor voids and drip trays to protect the server halls, ensuring early leak detection with alarms and automatic valve shut-off systems.
The systems trigger audio-visual alarms as well as sending onward communication to BMS.
A successful leak detection installation across multiple sites in London and the south east that fulfils the customer’s brief, protecting priority server halls and IT infrastructure in multiple data centres.
Installing Andel’s Floodline® leak detection systems now means the customer has:
