Data centre leak detection aligned with EN 50600 infrastructure standard

In the digital age, data centres, server rooms and communication hubs are the backbone of countless operations. Ensuring their uninterrupted functionality is paramount. One of the threats to these mission-critical operations is the risk of leaks from water, refrigerant gases and oil – which can lead to significant damage, operational downtime, financial loss and reputation damage.

In alignment with the EN 50600 standard for data-centre infrastructure, our solutions ensure that unseen leak risks do not undermine your resilience, uptime and ESG commitments.

Safeguarding your Data Centre

Andel’s comprehensive leak detection solutions for data centres (data centers in the US) ensure maximum protection and minimal disruption.

Modern data centres rely heavily on an variety of cooling systems such as Direct-to-Chip Liquid Cooling, Immersion Cooling, Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHx), In-Row Cooling, In-Row Cooling and often extensive pipework, in order to maintain optimal operating temperatures. These systems, while essential, introduce potential points of failure where leaks can occur.

Water ingress can compromise electrical systems, leading to short circuits or equipment failure. Similarly, refrigerant gas leaks not only diminish cooling efficiency but also pose environmental and health risks.

Introducing Floodline® leak detection from Andel

Andel's Floodline® systems offer robust and flexible solutions to these challenges. Designed with versatility in mind, Floodline® provides:

  • Zonal and distance measuring leak detection: Monitor vast areas with precision, ensuring even the smallest leaks are promptly identified.

  • Hybrid monitoring capabilities: Continuously and simultaneously monitor water, oil and gas leaks, temperature and humidity changes, and third-party systems – all through a single integrated platform.

  • Automated response mechanisms: In the event of a detected leak, Floodline® can trigger alarms, send notifications and initiate automatic shut-off valves to mitigate damage.

  • Integration with Building Management Systems (BMS): Seamlessly incorporate Floodline® into existing infrastructure for centralised monitoring and control. Floodline® systems trigger audio-visual alarms as well as sending onward communication to BMS. Integration with BMS supports centralised monitoring as required in EN 50600-3-1 for operational management.

How our leak-detection supports EN 50600 key infrastructure areas

Environmental control & monitoring (EN 50600-2-3)
Our systems monitor water, oil and refrigerant gas leaks right across the environmental control zones – under-floor, above ceiling, drip trays. The earlier detection = earlier mitigation = supports the 'environmental control' resilience demanded by EN 50600.

Power-distribution infrastructure (EN 50600-2-2)
Leaks in electrical zones, UPS/diesel generator rooms or fuel-storage bunds are critical failure points. Floodline® integrates with BMS and can trigger shut-off/alert logic such that risk to the power-distribution system is minimised.

Physical security & access (EN 50600-2-5 / EN 50600-3-1)
Because leak events are often tied to human-error, maintenance or incidental access, our solutions also feed into physical-security protocols and operations monitoring – helping you demonstrate control, traceability and audit-readiness (all content categories within EN 50600).

Key-performance indicators (EN 50600-4-X)
The series also introduces KPIs for e.g. water-usage effectiveness (WUE) and energy-use monitoring. When water ingress is prevented early, you support better WUE and hence bolster the data-centre’s sustainability metrics.

Water, oil and gas leak detection tailored for critical environments

Floodline® sensors are successfully deployed in a number of vulnerable locations, including:

  • Underfloor and ceiling spaces: Ideal for areas where cabling and pipework are concealed, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Floodline® high-sensitivity water leak sensor cable has a fine, multi-filament cellulosic outer covering which draws liquid into detection cores allowing the system to detect and react to the smallest amounts of water.

  • Drip trays and HVAC units: The system monitors potential leak points in cooling and heating systems in floor voids and drip trays to protect the server halls, ensuring early leak detection with alarms and automatic valve shut-off systems.

  • Fuel storage and generator rooms: Detection of oil leaks that could jeopardise back-up power systems.

Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our collaborations with leading global organisations, ensuring their critical infrastructure remains protected against leak-related threats.
