Site operators responsible for the storage, usage or transportation of hydrocarbons or any other pollutants must ensure their sites are fully compliant with relevant legislation and to should be fully prepared for an accidental spillage. Failure to comply with environmental law and to meet the relevant standards can result in criminal prosecution, fines, clean up costs and reputational damage in the event of a spillage.
Under Environmental Damage (Prevention and Remediation) Regulations 2015, in the event of a spillage, failure to notify an enforcing authority and take all practicable steps to prevent further environmental damage is a criminal offence.
Every site that stores oil and any other pollutant substance should have established procedures in place to deal with a spillage. Even with best on-site practice, accidents can still occur, often through third parties such as oil deliveries which is one of the most common causes of oil spillages. This means having the correct spill response equipment on site and in the right place and ensuring your response team have been properly trained to deal with any situation.
Andel offers ISAS-accredited onsite spill training for your team along with a comprehensive range of oil spill equipment.
